Denver Public Schools selected the team of GE Johnson Construction Company and Anderson Mason Dale Architects to provide full Design-Build turn-key delivery of the new 100,000 square foot Early Childhood Education (ECE) Through 8th Grade School located on 11 acres in the northwest sector of Stapleton at 35th Avenue and Syracuse Street. This school will fulfill a much needed increase in instructional space for this growing community.

The school is currently slated to provide an ECE-8 program for the community, with a planned 38 to 40 instructional rooms, administrative offices, cafeteria and commercial grade kitchen, and gymnasium with associated support spaces. A special multipurpose space to serve as media center, community room and performing arts venue is also planned for the building. Smaller multipurpose areas within the classroom zones provide added space for instruction and group activities. The entire site has been incorporated as part of the school’s learning landscapes – age appropriate play pits with equipment, swings, educational opportunities and play fields.

The project’s sustainability elements include LEED Certification, 37% reduction of water use and 33% energy cost from baseline building, 75% construction waste diverted from landfill to date, use of low emitting materials within the building envelope, employ day lighting techniques enhancing views and natural lighting, and incorporation into the school curriculum of 10 or more hours of classroom instruction on the high-performance features of the building.
